     Marcel Poirier: (1936-)

Marcel Poirier: Born in Montreal on April 18th, 1936.
When young, he arrived at Île Perrot, Vaudreuil-Soulanges County, where he spent a good part of his life. From an early age, he naturally likes to draw everything he sees. After classical studies, he worked in several fields, among others, in the printing industry at Gardenvale, Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue - (Quebec). At this location, he learned to be a presser. Paper, colors, inks and printing machines were revelations for him. The remaining ink allowed him to try to paint paintings, which still exist! What an adventure!

In 1958, Marcel Poirier joined the Canadian Armed Forces, in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), in the field of electronics, radar and communications. The atoms, the molecules, the electrons, the movement in the matter, the stars, the planets are, and are part of, his life. This job took him around the world. Throughout this period, 1958-1991, he studied the visual arts in different countries and in several ecological environments, while communicating in different languages, in order to better understand the people of the area with their customs and cultural baggage. In a word, what unites us on earth. Throughout his military career, he drew and painted using mediums and styles, realism; Impressionism; modern and contemporary art. Lead pencil, charcoal, sanguine, oil pastel, watercolor, acrylic, oil painting, and mixed media to make paintings-sculptures, current art. He touched wood carving, pottery, china and Raku.

Since 1962, Marcel Poirier pursues a search for contemporary ideas on airspace and land, planets, stars, ecology, environment and pollution. Having retired from the CF since 1991, he devotes himself to research in the graphic arts, especially in planography (siligraphy), lithography without water. The prints and engravings have always fascinated him and he tries by every means to experiment and learn the tricks of the trade. Mr. Poirier taught the visual arts on different occasions to young and old in many countries. He made a lot of monotypes and some series of siligraphies, some are modified with ecoline!

In 1999 and 2001, he studied the techniques in intaglio; dry point, etching, aquateinte, sugar way, glued China and a combination of several techniques both under the guidance and the professorship of the engraver Jean-Pierre Sauvé; in 2000, he studied wood engraving, on lino, collagaraphie under the supervision of Claire Lemay at the Zocalo workshop in Longueuil; in 2005, the chisel with Louis-Pierre Bougie; stone lithography with Carlos Calado; the lithographic photo with Vladimer Zabeida; photopolymer etching with Todd Munroe at the Montreal Circular Workshop.

Regular member of the Circulaire de Montréal workshop since 2005; he creates works of art in size and more specifically in lithography on stone. Mr. Poirier participates in many prints competitions here and abroad. He currently teaches drawing, in private lessons, by observation at his art workshops.

In 2003 he received the honorable mention of the Montreal Arts Club (Quebec).
